A Somerset firm has doubled its output – in part due to specialist recruitment agency, Skills Provision.
PBT International Ltd based near Wells, a leader within the European Laser cartridge remanufacturing industry, first used Skills Provision in 2005. Four years on and Skills Provision is directly credited with helping PBTI to expand and grow with nearly a third of the staff employed through the agency.
Works Director, Jeremy Thompson, explained: “We started in 2005 with a trial of one Polish national, closely followed by two more and found them so willing and hard working that we decided to continue employing staff from Eastern Europe.
“During 2009 we’ve doubled production and increased the total number of staff we employ to around 100 – 30 of whom are sourced from Skills Provision.
“We couldn’t run our business without them, Chris Slay of Skills Provision has the ability to respond to our needs at short notice and he works closely with us to provide the right staff at the right time.”
Jeremy added: “Our ability to respond to this recent increase in production requirements can be directly attributed to staff from Skills Provision. Recruiting production staff in our local area of Somerset has always been difficult as it has had one of the lowest unemployment rates and without access to staff from overseas it would have been a real struggle to expand to such an extent.”
PBTI employs a range of nationalities through Skills Provision, the majority from Poland. The company feels that the staff from Eastern Europe tend to be more reliable than a lot of their British counterparts, are willing to work more flexible hours and are generally more committed.
And because PBTI has been using Eastern European staff for the last four years, there is now a good balance between English speaking and non-English speaking staff, with some promoted to supervisory positions.
Jeremy added: “We operate within a fast moving industry and have to be able to respond quickly to changes in customer demand and having flexible staff supplied by a company that understands our changing requirements is key to that.
“I’d definitely recommend using staff from overseas as long as the supplier is reputable, reliable and responsive which we have found Skills Provision to be.”
