Yahoo Purchase IntoNow
Yahoo are reported to have paid $25 million for ‘IntoNow’ a software package that automatically recognises TV programmes via the iphone and links data to social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. After delivering poor financial results Yahoo possibly view this package as a key ingredient in turning round their poor performance. IntoNow also looks set to be released onto the android phone and Ipad.
The interface will deliver results like:
Pete is now watching Strictly Come Dancing (really)
Tracy is watching Criminal Minds
IntoNow also has advertisement potential through the delivery of coupons related to the TV programmes being watched, Pepsi Max as reported to be interested in a tie up.
Personally I’m not convinced this software package will turn around Yahoo’s fortunes, if anything it seems more like a punt than a development that will stand the test of time. I guess we will see.
