Why are the Younger Generation Unseen on Business Forums

As online business grows in popularity we see a wide spectrum of people using business related forums, the only exception to this is the younger generation, why is this? Business forums are an important part of the online marketing mix, if used well they can improve a business’s visibility, as well as giving small business owners a platform to demonstrate their skills and depth of knowledge, this can often lead to contracts of work being generated. Savvy operators combine a sound forum presence with visibility in search engines and popular social media platforms. The average age of business forum users is between 30 -50 years old, with the halls of education popularising IT related subjects you would think this would be followed through with a new breed of online entrepreneur hitting the business forum scene, you would be wrong, this is simply not happening.

My own thoughts are this, the forum scene is generally made up of service providers, be that copywriters, designers, optimisers, printers, photographers, virtual secretaries, marketers etc. The common theme with all these businesses is they require a sound work ethic and single minded determination to see them flourish, these traits are unfortunately missing with the younger generation, they prefer to tread the path of least resistance. Young people can be found hanging out in many popular search engine related forums, but very few are moving up from here, this would indicate they are not building sound business models. When you read these forums you get an understanding why, everything is about ‘easy money’ improving pageranking to generate passive advertising revenue has no sustainability. Our low cost SEO services are not advertised on forums low cost SEO. This is not to say the youth of today are a total waste of space, there will always be exceptions to the rule, we have already seen some fantastic online platforms produced by innovative young people. It will be interesting to see how the future pans out, will the youth of today continue down their road of searching for this ellusive easy money or will they step up to the plate and build solid businesses that will stand the test of time.

I currently hang out at the Orange Tree Lounge a nice business forum that brings together some fantastic people with strong views and sounds business knowledge, if you get time pop in.

Merry Xmas
