The Internet is Open
It may be an obvious statement but the Internet is open for business 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Yet online businesses still base their working hours around the traditional 9 – 5 system. Serious online operators put systems of work in place so their online business is operational any time of the day. This is becoming more common as many companies provide services or products to the global marketplace.
Auto responders stating a member of staff will reply to an enquiry within 48 hours is now seen as an outdated strategy. The online consumer is an impatient individual, if a company is not willing to deal with their request immediately they will happily look elsewhere.
The pressure of running/maintaining an online business 24 hours a day is a tricky affair, it can also bring a lot of stress to a business owner. That said the online arena is a competitive place, where one provider is not willing or able to provide 24 support another will.
Do not make the mistake of thinking traditional and online businesses are the same animal, they are not, the online environment offers flexibility and the promise of untold riches but the question remains, what are business owners willing to give in return.
Adopt the attitude of sitting back and one day you may wake up scratching your head, wondering where did it all go wrong.
