Street View Issues
I’m a huge fan of Google’s Street View, let’s be honest, what a fantastic invention it is. The online user now has the ability to navigate around streets as if they were there in person. Of course not everyone views these technological advancements with the same enthusiasm as I do. France recently fined Google $142,000 for extracting image data from private wifi networks for the Street View system. The amusing aspect is, it was Google themselves who posted the information on their blog in 2010. OK, so Google may have strayed from the straight and narrow in terms of setting up this system and there will always be privacy issues attached to it, but come on let’s be honest it’s one of the most exciting breakthroughs in many a year.
I guess Google see these small fines as small change or more than likely they have good PR benefit. Maybe France are still smarting from their dismal showing in the World Cup, who knows.
