Reporting Websites to Google

Only occasionally do I feel compelled to report spam issues to Google, however recently I seem to be doing it more than at any other time in the past. I personally have no idea why people seem compelled to act outside of the boundaries set by Google. I see plenty of sites that implement crude methods in an attempt to generate an advantage in the organic rankings. Things like, hidden text, irregular strings of keywords or place names often this goes as far as postcodes, stolen content, stolen images and the sale of links.

Producing a natural website that caters for a specific target audience is not rocket science it just requires an element of persistence and hard work. Of course it’s natural to take inspiration from others, but pure replication is a crude game, one that should be dealt with severely manner. It may take many years but I’m sure eventually people will realise there is no way to beat the system, then and only then will we see a tide change, that being the disappearance of the black hat crew. It would be fair to say Google have many fans as well as their knockers, I guess this is natural when an organisation grows to the level Google have, as far as I am concerned the clean up steps they have eliminated over the past few years have been fantastic in delivering better search engine results, saying that the fight is far from over.

The best advice I can offer is this, do not build your websites around search engines, build them with your target audience in mind, when this is done then turn your attention to search engines by following the basic optimisation fundamentals, this added with the upload of unique content on a regular basis, this will serve you well into the future. Do not be tempted by shortcuts, they may work in the short period of time but long term you’re taking a risk.

If you see sites that are breaking Google’s guidelines, do as I do, simply report them, if they are found to be guilty, they will be dealt with.
