Promote your expertise, your business and your website
Let’s say you know something that other people don’t know. Or you have a skill or area of speciality or expertise that other people would like to learn about. Maybe your business is unusual or niche or maybe your business is ‘normal’ but has involved you learning about running a business. You have knowledge that other people would like to have. And I’m going to suggest, strongly, that you give that knowledge away. For free. And you make it available for anyone anywhere to download. In fact, I recommend that you do the hard work and make your knowledge easy for everyone to find.
I probably need to explain why this makes sense and what the incentive is for you to do it. Well, firstly, if the article is well written (get someone to write it for you if you are not able to, or don’t have to time to, write it yourself) and informative, it will demonstrate to people that you really do know what you’re talking about. Obviously, you’ll put your name, company name and website address in there, so people will know just who this expert is! Secondly, you can make the article available by submitting it to one (or several) of the many article submission sites on the web – such as ezine or goarticles (again, if you don’t know how to do this, get someone who can do it for you). Each article will have your name, your company name and a link back to your site. The article is free and copyright free, so that anyone can use it. Unless you’ve copied someone else’s article and submitted it as your own, Google will find it, and notice that you’ve got links back to your site from the article site, building your sites credibility with the search engines.
Now let’s say that one of the millions of editors of online magazines and E-mail newsletters picks up your article and uses it, with links back to your site. Google will spot that too, further enhancing your site’s online reputation. So, give a little time each month to writing something of interest. It will build your ‘real’ credibility with the people who read it, and your website’s ‘virtual’ credibility with the search engines – ultimately helping to boost your search engine ranking. You might even discover a talent for writing – the next JK Rowling might well be out there!
