Naming and Shaming
Recently I’ve read a fair bit on the subject of naming and shaming within the business community, obviously this is an emotive subject as no one likes receiving negative reviews. My own take on the subject is fairly straight forward, the Internet offers a perfect platform for business owners to advertise their products and services, to that end the same platform should allow people to leave unbiased feedback. If more people adopted an honest approach the sourcing of top quality products or services would be far easier.
The currently problem with the Internet is the ease in which any system can be manipulated, if we look at Amazon we can see quiet clearly that the vast majority of reviews have been professionally crafted. I would hazard a guess if webmasters were given the opportunity to leave genuine feedback on suppliers, many would see this as an opportunity to stick the knife into their competitors. As the Internet continues to develop I’m sure we will see more opinions and feedback plastered across the web, of course there will be a manipulative element but on the flip side this would be a minority.
Whilst receiving negative feedback can be painful it can also be a good learning experience, remember the key to business is keeping our clients happy, ignoring their complaints is denial in the extreme. We all learn from our mistakes.
