Keyword Research
Keywords are the words/phrases typed into search engines.
When it comes to online business people are naturally impulsive, this generally leads to mistakes being made and opportunities being lost. A point to note, a web designer is just that, a designer, they have very little interest in how a site performs in the search engines after it has been built and the invoice settled.
Without doubt one of the most common mistakes surrounds the subject of keyword research; if a site is structured correctly every page has the ability to rank highly. However if the wrong keywords are selected a web page has little to no chance of being viewed, ranking highly for terms no one searches for is pointless.
The complicated part of keyword research is the selection process itself; just because a term is popular it does not mean it’s the best choice. In depth research is required to determine the best selection of keywords and phrases for each page of any website.
Implementing Keywords
Implementing keyword(s) onto any web page is not rocket science, it simply involves following these basic rules.
a. Add keyword(s) to the page header
b. Mention your page relevant keyword(s) a few times within the site content
c. Mention page relevant keywords in your meta tags
d. If you have images on your page, mention your keywords in the alt attributes/tags
The main focus is to keep the web page user friendly, to that end keywords need to be added so they appear semantically corret.
