Google's Bonus Scheme

I've never quiet understood why productivity bonuses are less common than they were in the past. Surely motivational techniques, whatever form they take, are a way of improving a business model. News from Google this week is interesting. Pay bonuses for 2011 are going to be twinned to Google’s performance in the social sector. It’s well documented the search engine giant have been unable to find the right recipe to compete with Facebook and Twitter.

Google Buzz has not only been an expensive flop it has also been hit with many lawsuits. Google’s pay incentive is an interesting one, they’re basically saying to all employees, if you want more money in this years pay packet, come up with new innovations that will help the business compete in the social media sphere. It’s a step I applaud, more corporations should follow suit. Shop floor workers may be at the bottom end of the food chain, however it doesn't mean to say they don’t have fantastic ideas.

Brian Wood an experienced factory manager and personal friend of mine commented, ‘more often than not the shop floor worker has a better angle on the running of an organisation than they are given credit for’. I certainly agree with Brian’s comments. On a separate note, yesterday I commented that The Little Things in life were in 2nd position on Google for the term wedding jewellery, this is now incorrect the site is now in first position for the terms wedding jewellery and bridal jewellery. I think I will celebrate with a few jars tonight
