Do You Enjoy Work?
Being self employed certainly has its advantages; I guess the flip side is it can also bring a lot of stress. It got me thinking about why I enjoy my job so much. Previous to owning an online marketing company I was employed as a soldier in HM Forces. The main difference between military and civilian lifestyles is the former is classed more as a vocation less so a job. People certainly don’t choose a career in the military to get rich. I personally enjoyed the military lifestyle, it was an added bonus I got paid. As I moved into civilian work, there was a period of adjustment, after bedding down I started to notice a lot of things around me. It was disappointing to view my new surroundings negatively; it’s like being involved in a huge rat race, where people’s only enjoyment revolves around the earnings achieved.
In London the main conversation is, how much did you earn this month. Even when the economy is buoyant there appears to be a general feeling of unhappiness, the only time people cheer up is when it’s time to knock off. As mentioned earlier being self employed does have its advantages, being in control is certainly one of them. To that end I make a point of making sure I structure my workload so I can enjoy it. When positive aspects are reached, I take satisfaction from them. I guess the morale of the story is simple, we spend a lot of our lives in work, to that end it’s important to take positive steps to enjoy the experience. I do and to be honest my days fly by.
