Networking
What is networking and why is it important? Networking, at its core, is forming working business relationships with potential business contacts and clients. The key to networking is not so much meeting new people as it is selecting the right people with whom to form a business relationship that is beneficial to both of you.
The reason people network is to find new streams of business revenue. This can happen directly in the form of new business from new clients or indirectly in the forming of a relationship with someone who can send work your way in exchange for you sending work to them.
There are plenty of ways to network for your business. Many cities and towns have set up events called "networking events" that serve to act as a sort of "meet and greet" for local business people. These events are a great way to meet others in your field but they aren't always conducive to forming lasting relationships.
A more effective approach to networking is to make sure to attend events that relate to your field of business, whether or not they are designed for networking. Show support for your field and the business will follow! This method also helps you to make sure that the business relationships you form will be beneficial to both of you and that's what networking is really about.
